Trace Gas Calibration Facility
Through this University Service Recharge Center, we maintain a facility to create and calibrate custom compressed gas cylinders to be used by the University and broader scientific community as reference standards for atmospheric trace gas research. Gases are traceable to World Meteorological Organization Mole Fraction Scales and/or the International Atomic Energy Agency stable isotope scales. Gases are filled in Salt Lake City and scrubbed or spiked to achieve desired contents (trace gases with balance air, not mixed from N2 and O2). Typical atmospheric mole fractions or isotope composition are achievable, and tanks with higher mole fractions can also be filled. Tanks are 150A aluminum cylinders with CGA-590 valves. Rates represent our break-even costs and are regulated by University accounting.
